Policing the city of Los Angeles is complex, and involves collaboration between multiple agencies. Primary law-enforcement in the city is provided by the Los Angeles Police Department. In addition, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department polices some unincorporated areas of the city, and handles county-level law enforcement within the city, such as Los Angeles County Superior and Municipal Court bailiff duties and security in the courts and prisons, security on public transportation and policing on community college campuses. In addition, the California State University (CSULA, CSUN and CSUDH) and University of California (UCLA) police departments police campuses within their respective systems.
