The Juvenile Division (JUV) of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is responsible for juvenile narcotics enforcement, child abuse and child exploitation investigations, overseeing the LAPD's youth programs, and providing department-wide juvenile advice, consulting, and training.

Administrative Section[]
The Administrative Section is responsible for providing information, training, evaluation, and auditing of juvenile policies and procedures; implementing modifications of juvenile policies and procedures as needed; reviewing selected juvenile cases to ensure that LAPD policy and procedures are being followed; reviewing, evaluating, and recommending LAPD positions relative to proposed legislation affecting juveniles; monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of juvenile referral services and recommending community services which may be beneficial to juveniles; and coordinating all LAPD youth programs.
Operations Section[]
The Operations Section is responsible for conducting follow-up investigations of requests for petitions, which have been denied by the Probation Department or the District Attorney; and exercising functional supervision over all LAPD personnel participating in the Police Explorer Program by providing information, training, evaluation, and auditing of policies and procedures, including civilian volunteers.
Child Protection Section[]
The Child Protection Section is responsible for investigating allegations of child physical or sexual abuse when it is suspected that the parent or legal guardian is responsible, and investigating undetermined deaths of children under the age of 11 years, including child homicides. The Section is also responsible for handling citywide calls from mandated reporters and other persons who are reporting any suspected child abuse, and interacting with outside agencies for purposes of investigation, prosecution, and training on matters of child exploitation and child pornography.
