Episode Notes[]

This is the first episode set in Los Angeles' Chinese community. The third largest in North America (behind San Francisco and Vancouver,) Los Angeles' Chinese community is multi-generational, with the earliest settlements following closely on the gold rush of 1849. As the largest port of entry on the west coast of the Pacific Rim, Los Angeles has seen a recent influx of Chinese immigrants, spreading the community outside its original boundaries to a group of cities in the eastern suburbs. The largest Chinese population in the Los Angeles area now resides in the city of Monterey Park, which adjoins the eastern city limits of Los Angeles, a few miles from downtown.

At one point in the story, Willie Rae marvels at how close Chinatown is to Parker Center. And she's right; Chinatown is located a few blocks from LAPD headquarters, along Hill Street.
